We’re excited to welcome William (Bill) Thompson to the IX Solutions team as a Network Consultant.
Originally from Seattle and now based in New Westminster, BC, Bill brings more than a decade of hands-on networking experience to the team, spanning industries like professional services, travel and hospitality, manufacturing, and internet service providers. His background includes building and maintaining complex internal networks, as well as supporting client-facing network projects in highly regulated, high-availability environments.
Bill’s path into technology is a unique one. He studied theatre and performing arts at Western Washington University before transitioning into networking during the early days of the internet boom. Since then, his technical education has been shaped by vendor training, certifications, and real-world problem-solving.
Bill sees networks as living systems that need care, maintenance, and thoughtful design. As such, he describes himself as a “Network Custodian”—someone who keeps environments clean, stable, and running smoothly. At IX Solutions, Bill will be focused on helping our customers build and maintain secure, resilient network environments that support both day-to-day operations and long-term growth.
What excites him most about joining IX is the opportunity to work across multiple client environments and design solutions that are truly tailored, rather than one-size-fits-all. And when it comes to his favourite part of the job? As many network professionals will nod knowingly—“It’s always DNS”.
Outside of work, Bill is a fan of classic cinema and makes an annual trip to Seattle for the Noir City film festival. He also plays the Chinese strategy board game Go (also known as wéiqí or baduk), where he holds an American Go Association ranking of 13 kyu—a game that rewards patience, foresight, and adaptability, much like networking itself.
